28 week Baby G appointment

This was the one where I had to do the Gestational Diabetes screening. So many people complain about how terribly awful the stuff you have to drink is. And it's true that it is nothing I would ever choose to drink on my own, however it isn't that bad. It just tastes like somewhat flat orange soda, only with even more sugar added. It is quite sweet but it's not as though it tastes like liver or something.

Anyhow after drinking that I went for my regular appointment. Everything is looking good. She always asks about the baby's movement, and I always tell her it moves like crazy. As I was saying this she was listening for the heartbeat with the doppler and said "yes, she is quite a mover". Then we started hearing a rhythmic swish or bump sound, which the doctor said was Baby G hiccuping! It was so cute, and funny. Even the doctor had to laugh a little - it really was funny. The heart rate, once she got the baby still long enough to get it, was in the 130's so all was well. We talked briefly about my main concerns which have been swelling, sciatica in my butt/leg, and Braxton Hicks contractions (for anyone who might not know, those are basically fake or practice contractions - they feel like an intense tightening and to me are somewhat uncomfortable, but not painful). She just encouraged me to take it easy when I can and try to put my feet up a lot. And of course call if I start getting too many of those contractions.

I had waited 40 minutes just to get called in to the appointment, so by the time I was out it had been almost an hour since I drank the glucose drink, which meant time to head back to the lab for my blood draw. I was surprised when she successfully found a vein right away and got the blood with no problems - usually people have problems finding my vein...when it comes to taking blood, inserting an IV, whatever. I have had so many bad experiences with them having to poke and re-poke and re-poke again! So I was very excited to get out of there so quickly and relatively pain-free :-)

Oh and since my last appointment nobody has called me to schedule the c-section but this time the doctor definitely filled out the request form (right in front of me) and I should be getting a call once they coordinate surgery's schedule with the doctor's and come up with a definite date. She is guessing it will be about September 2nd - that is a Tuesday. I would love a Friday but hey, I will take what I can get. And who knows, Baby G might still decide to come earlier anyways and pick her own day.
