Coming soon!

We have 1 full day left before Baby G's arrival. It has been a busy weekend - getting all sorts of last minute stuff taken care of. Andy has been busy hanging stuff up in the room (including the letters spelling out her name above her crib, just like Kaitlyn has). He has also been busy hauling loads of laundry from the basement to the upstairs and the other way around - because it is hard for me, especially on the basement stairs. Plus getting other stuff done like mowing the lawn, helping me clean, and lots more. What a great, helpful man I snagged :-)

I have been cleaning and today spent a lot of time putting getting everything put away in the closet. I am happy to say, that time consuming project is finally 100% done. We also went shopping today to make sure we have everything we need. I am absolutely beat though. Sore all over, tired, huge, and just ready to have this baby!

Tomorrow is the last day we have to get things done - we just have some general cleaning, and Andy has a few small finishing touches left in Baby G's room.

And tomorrow night, my parents are coming down to stay the night (in a hotel, since my mom is very allergic to cats). Tuesday morning we have to be at the hospital at 5:30 am, so my parents will come over to stay with Kaitlyn when we leave. My surgery is scheduled at 8:00 am.
I probably won't have a chance, or motivation to blog any time tomorrow, so...wish us luck. Hopefully the next blog posted will be by Andy, with an introduction to the newest member of our family.

Kaitlyn's latest adventures

Kaitlyn is having a tooth explosion - in the last week, numbers 9 and 10 have come up...and 11 is close. She hates tooth brushing time, and I don't blame her. It can't feel good to have all those teeth coming up at once, especially given her history of being a rough teether.

She has become the sweetest little girl before bedtime. At 7:30, we tell her it's time for her bath. She runs to the door (to our living room) and when we open it she goes right upstairs. After her bath, she has a sippy cup. When she is done with that, we let her run around a few minutes and she usually gives goodnight kisses. Lots of them. I think she has come to love good night kiss time. Finally, Andy puts her down in her crib (my belly won't allow me to comfortably right now) and she cuddles up to her blanket and goes right to sleep - no problems, no fits, nothing. She has always (except the first 3 months) mostly been wonderful when it comes to sleeping, but now she is an absolute dream child. Let's hope it lasts throughout her childhood years...lol

And of course, as always, we are amazed at all the new words/skills she shows off every single day. My personal favorite is strawberry ("sta-bear"). She has pajamas with a strawberry on the shirt and on the pants, and she will even point it out for you if you ask her about her strawberry.

She only has 1 day left as an only child...I hope she adjusts with minimal problems. Baby G has a present for Kaitlyn when she comes home, so hopefully Kaitlyn will associate Baby G with FUN.

Lets make bets....

How many cents is gas going up as Gustav demolishes New Orleans again?

My Guess is 40 cents, to make gas $3.99 again.

Help fight spam

You know those strings of text that you are sometimes required to enter before completing or submitting something on the internet? The purpose is to help fight off spammers, I suppose because it requires somebody to actually read it and then manually re-enter it into the text box below.

Anyways, I generally have no problem with this. Yes, it can be annoying - but oh well, it's really not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, right?

BUT - come on, at least make the stupid string of characters somewhat legible! Seriously, I just came across one and had no idea whether it was "fnc" "emo" "tuu" or what. It could have been anything, I had no idea. It was impossible to tell - obviously I guessed wrong and got a second chance with a different string of characters. That one I got right - lucky for them, or else I might have to get all sue happy and get them for causing unnecessary emotional distress.

Chinese Gymnastics

Ok, well it has really been bugging me. Chinese, lie, cover up, cheat? No, of course not.

Well the Olympics came to prove this all wrong. There is a great blogger on the Chinese Gymnast Coverup, Stryde Hax, has some great links and posts to prove the cover up.

Now, lets just start Olympics. The talented little girl, Yang Peiyi, whose voice filled he birds nest was not actually the girl signing.

A blurb from the LA Times.

Peiyi had the voice and was supposed to perform, but was yanked at the last minute because her looks were deemed not suitable by a senior Communist Party official, Chen said.

"It was for the national interest," Chen told Beijing Radio. "The child on camera should be flawless in image, internal feelings and expression."

So Yang Peiyi is not pretty enough. Maybe with her beautiful little voice, she will be sent to work in all those Chinese factories. Would China have came out and told everyone if this didn't get leaked. Hell No!

How about the faked Olympic Firework Intro....

Nor was all quite what it seemed with the dazzling fireworks sequence watched by a billion or more television viewers. Worried about the difficulty of cameras capturing 29 sequential explosions from Tiananmen Square to the Olympic Village, the Chinese visual effects team re-created all but one of the big bangs in an animation studio, and inserted the 55-second clip into the live TV coverage.

Think they would have actually came out and said it was faked. Nope, not that either.

Lets search "China and Censor" on Google. 1.61 million results? Why must they censor their search results. Government control.

So, He Kexin, she doesn't look 16. Forensic experts have even stated her facial appearance does is not similar to someone 16 years of age.

But why lie about their ages. if they are 14 now, they will be 18 for the next Olympics and be past their prime.

As stated by Cui Dalin, the vice minister of the General Administration of Sport of China:

“During the registration, there were some discrepancies in the age of the athlete, therefore that mistake has led to a series of misunderstandings afterward,” Cui said during a closing news conference for the Chinese sports delegation here. “I can say for sure the age of the Chinese gymnasts comply with the rules.”

China, lie, cover up, cheat? Sure seems like it. I guess this all must be "administrative error".

Those poor talented gymnasts now look bad. I bet there would be protection in the states for He Kexin's parents to tell her age, but who knows, maybe they have a memory error and forgot the birthday. They could probably make a pretty good killing on cracking the Chinese Olympic Scandal and selling their book about how the goverment took their child away to become a gymnast.

If Kandi Can Vent, I can too right?

If you are merging into a lane of traffic, if the speed limit is 55, why do idiots merge in at 30 mph. You realize that 1/8 mile ramp isn't just for calling someone one your cell phone, combing you hear, putting make up on, doing only god knows what else...

Also, does driving a Cadillac Escalade turn your into the worlds worst driver? Seems like it.

38 week appointment and a random vent

I need to go to bed because I work tonight and have been up since midnight, but I am starving so while I wait 5 minutes for my food to be done, here's a little update.

This was my last appointment! Everything was fine. The baby had the hiccups when she was listening to the heart. Heart rate was in 120's - 130's. Everything is normal. I asked about my swelling (pitting edema, where you can leave a dent in the skin with your finger or thumb) and she was not worried since my blood pressure was fine and what not.

She had a cancellation for next Tuesday (person who was scheduled already gave birth) so she asked if we would like to move up a day (we were originally scheduled for Wednesday). Of course we agreed! As I was typing this I got the call from the scheduler and my c-section is officially scheduled for September 2nd - 1 week and 1 day from today! It is at 8 am, and we have to be there at 5:30 am. I can't believe that (unless she comes early on her own) my baby's birthday will be September 2nd - and that is just days away. I am SO excited! No way was I going to turn it down - I am SO uncomfortable 100% of the time, and I waddle like a penguin because her head is so low, and I am just ready to be done now :-)

Andy finished up the room this weekend, all that is left is up to me (putting away clothes and getting "stuff" organized) which I will do in the days before surgery since my last night of work is the 28th (which is also our 4 year wedding anniversary, FYI).

In other news - a short vent. On my way home from the appointment today, I was merging onto 35, and a car was coming. I judged his speed and distance and decided that it would work best for me to wait for him to go rather than trying to get in ahead of him. So I stayed in the far right lane, waiting for him to go by. Well he slows down. So I speed up, thinking he is letting me in front of him. And he speeds up. So I slow down again. And he does too! I swear that he was doing it on purpose - matching my speed so that I would have a hard time getting in. He wasn't moving over to the next lane either, which also would have been nice of him. There was NOBODY else around, so no reason for him to not move over for me. He was just being an ass, there is no two ways around it. Why, I don't know. Finally, I just stepped on the gas HARD, I mean really put the pedal to the metal, and was able to get in front of him.

Jerk.

Olympic commentator GENIUS

I was just watching a race - 5000m women's final. Before the race began, the commentator went through some of the women and several of them had a significant accomplishment that pointed towards them possibly being a good contender (world record holder, champion in another event, Olympic trials champion, etc).

So the genius says something to the effect of "With so many major contenders, I think this race will come down to will and speed". NO WAY!? You mean, speed is a factor in a race? Huh...who knew?

Olympics

I found myself really getting into the Olympics this year and am wondering, what will I do at work at night without them? (Not that it matters that much, I only have 4 more shifts left after tonight).

I really got into all the Phelps hype, and never missed one of his finals. YAY for 8 gold medals! I especially found it interesting hearing of some of the "quirks" about him that makes him the "perfect swimmer". He is able to flex his foot much farther than the average person, essentially making his feet exactly straight in line with his legs. His hands are the size of dinner plates. His short legs, long torso, broad shoulders, narrow waist and huge wingspan all contribute to having the perfect swimming body as well. Not that I know anything about it! That's just what I heard.
I also got into the beach volleyball scene, with Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh becoming the first beach volleyball team to ever win gold in two consecutive Olympics, not to mention being completely unbeaten for over a year now.
And finally, as always, I love watching gymnastics. I felt so bad for Nastia Liukin when, in one final, she tied with the gold medal winner, but had to take silver because of the computer's method for tie-breaking. But at least she won the all-around gold, which was awesome and well deserved. Then there is Alicia Sacramone, and the awful storm cloud of bad luck that seemed to follow her around the whole time. And 16 year old Shawn Johnson is about the cutest.thing.ever. so I was super excited that she got a gold, as well.
And of course, you can't talk about 2008 Beijing Olympic gymnastics without mentioning the Chinese age controversy. Juicy stuff, very interesting. I am sure if Andy gets a chance he would be happy to blog about it, right Andy?

Now I have to sit back and wait for the 2010 winter Olympics...hopefully my man, speed skater Apolo Anton Ohno, is back for those - I definitely enjoyed watching him in 2006 :-) I also love to watch figure skating, in fact that is probably my favorite out of all the Olympic sports, summer or winter. Sorry, Apolo.

Waterpark fun

We have not had much luck when taking Kaitlyn swimming in the lake. She screams and cries and throws a huge fit as soon as her feet hit the water. But this weekend, we had the opportunity to take her to The Edge waterpark here in Duluth. Mommy and daddy were so impressed with how well she did! Of course we stayed in the 8 inch deep pool area, but even just that was plenty of fun. She was obviously a little nervous and always wanted to be in direct contact with mom or dad, but she didn't cry or scream. Daddy even took her down a couple of small water slides.

Mommy, of course, doesn't have a suit to fit her. But she did walk - make that waddle - around the 8 inch pool in order to get pictures and be a part of the fun.

37 week appointment

Tomorrow I am officially considered to be "full term" - 37 weeks. Very exciting! Even if Baby G does not decide to pick her own birthday, we only have 2 weeks and 2 days left until the big day.

My appointment today was a bit exciting, as well. First the boring stuff - There is not much progress (a "fingertip"dilated which they basically consider to be nothing) and 30% effaced. Baby very low (already knew that!) at a -2 station. I am measuring 38 cm which is 1 cm of growth since last week, so that's perfect. I did not really gain anything since last week so I am still sitting at a total weight gain of around 10 lbs from pre-pregnancy, or 25 if you count it from what I was after I had lost the weight in the beginning. My blood pressure was excellent as usual at 100/60. (In fact, it was a different nurse than usual taking my blood pressure, and she actually felt the need to double check that it was in the range of what I normally am, which it was).

The exciting part came when she was taking the heart rate. She spent quite awhile on it (partly because of baby moving around so much it was hard to get) but also because at times she thought it went a little low. It was varying between the 120's and slightly less. So, she sent me for a non-stress test just to double check that all was well. (After what happened with Kaitlyn, I said YES anything having to do with the heart rate, check it out!) The non stress test went well. The base heart rate is around 120, which is the low end of what they consider normal. But every time the baby moves, it goes up which is a good sign that she is getting plenty of oxygen. And boy did the baby move. So much that the nurse had to keep adjusting the monitor and eventually just held it by hand. Baby G was making my stomach bloop all over the place and even made the nurse laugh a couple of times. I had to press a button each time she moved, and I sure did make good use of that button.

So yeah. They were fine with the results and said it is okay that the base rate is where it is, since they are seeing really good acceleration with each movement.

That's about it for now. I am hoping to get a lot done today so I better get going on that.

Bigfoot Does Exist!

They found a dead bigfoot in Georgia. He does exist.

Americans find body of Bigfoot

Two men in the US state of Georgia say they have found the body of a Bigfoot, the legendary ape-like creature that has been subject of decades of hoaxes.

Matt Whitton and Rick Dyer say they stumbled across the 2.3m-high (7ft 7in), 226kg (500 pound) corpse in a wood in the north of the state in June.

A photograph on the men's website shows what appears to be the body of a large, hairy creature with an ape-like face.

What's left before Baby G arrives

It really hit me today, at 36 weeks along, that at the most I have 3 weeks, 1 day until baby is here. That is if I make it to my scheduled c-section. Wow. Time has gone by SO fast. We have gotten a lot done, yet still have so much to do.

The room is almost done - Andy has cleared it out, painted it, and just last night put the crib together. The rug and blinds and curtains that my mom ordered are here. My parents were here today and my dad started putting Kaitlyn's new dresser together, and her changing table will then move to baby's room. We still need to put up the curtains, various wall decor, move the glider from Kaitlyn's room to Baby G's, and find a door. (Yeah, the room is currently door-less).

The closet is probably all me, since I like organizing - I still have a lot to do, but the bottom line was that I first needed to sort and wash all of the clothes...both brand new purchases and Kaitlyn's old stuff. My mom helped me to sort and de-tag today, and hopefully within the next week I will get everything washed. Once that is done, I can put things away and get organized. I don't mind though - what maternal minded woman doesn't love baby clothing?! And there is a lot of it - I forgot how much stuff we have been through since Kaitlyn was born...wow. There are piles and piles of clothes now overtaking my dining room (until I have Andy bring them to the basement so I can wash them). That is definitely a plus to having another girl - we don't need to buy any clothes. Of course, I have anyways. But only for fun, and because I didn't want Baby G to be in 100% hand-me-downs. I mean, hand-me-downs are great when they are in good condition. I LOVE rummage sales (even though I am picky). But a new baby deserves some new stuff too, right?! In any case, we have enough baby girl stuff to last 10 baby girls, I think. So anyways - if this baby had been a boy, I would have been thrilled with the opportunity to buy a ton of new clothes, but it would not have been as easy on our bank account!

We still have to get the infant car seat bases back into our cars and buy a mattress for the crib. I have to wash the car seat and bouncer and swing, since they have been in storage for a year. And last but not least, I have to check and see what small but essential items we may still be missing...stuff like infant gas drops to have on hand, lotion, diaper creme, etc. Once the changing table is set up I will see that it gets stocked with everything.

So that is where we are as far as being prepared. Coming right along, but still a ways to go. Which is scary since Andy's guess for the baby's birth is August 17th. Let's hope he is wrong, because that is only 5 days from now. lol

36 Week Appointment

Just got back from the latest Baby G appointment. Tomorrow I am 36 weeks pregnant. It is crazy how fast time has gone by.

Since yesterday I have been feeling pretty sick. It started with some awful acid reflux during a nap, which lead into some throwing up, and ever since I have just not felt right. To help with the reflux, she advised cutting down on sugar, caffeine, chocolate, and pasta sauce type things. And to eat more frequent, smaller meals. She said tuna once a week would be good for me. She also prescribed Pepcid twice a day.

I was measuring 37 weeks, which is 1 week ahead of where I am, but 2 weeks less than I had been measuring in recent weeks. Know why? Because baby G has dropped into my pelvis. I had a pretty good idea of this already, since I have been feeling more pressure down there lately. Especially when I first get up from a laying or sitting position - It feels like the head is trying to break it's way out of my pelvic area. Quite uncomfortable and in certain positions, painful. Anyhow my suspicions about baby having dropped were confirmed when the doctor said "Wow, this baby is really down low". Good to know I'm not nuts, doc, but was the surprised look on your face really necessary?

I am not dilated at all so that is good. She didn't say, or make it sound like there was any reason to think the baby would come earlier, but I got the sense that she would not necessarily be surprised. Just by the way she said "Let's try and make it 2 more weeks". I might just be paranoid though, who knows. In any case, Andy asked me to pack up my hospital bag today so that we are prepared. Like the lady in the elevator commented..."you just never know". Thanks, lady.

The Green Balloon

When we were at the fair, a kind lady gave us a balloon because her little girl did not want it.

It turns out, Kaitlyn LOVES balloons. Especially when it has just enough helium left that it doesn't rise completely up and away, but is still very float-y nonetheless.

South St. Louis County Fair

So we did end up taking Kaitlyn to the fair. It was okay - not that big (though in a way, that was good because I had less distance to waddle around). By far the best part for us was taking Kaitlyn to the Petting Zoo area. There were all sorts of creatures - goats (including baby goats wandering freely...they liked to get under our stroller for some reason), deer (one of whom tried to eat my shirt and left me with a big wet spot from it's saliva), donkeys, a camel, llama, calves, zebra... I can't even remember them all.

We also took her to watch the horses at the horse show.

And offered a pony ride - but she cried when Andy tried putting her on. (Below is, I believe, the offending pony).

Even mommy had fun despite being HUGE and having worked the night before!

Daddy tried to win Kaitlyn a huge stuffed bear at the "shoot the star" game, but was not successful. We then contributed a little more money to the fair by Andy having a gyro and a sno-cone, and Kandi having some cotton candy (which was SO good by the way - haven't had cotton candy in years!) By this time, Kaitlyn was ready for a nap and starting to get cranky, and so our time at the fair ended.

Lucky number seven

Andy discovered last night that Kaitlyn has broken her 7th tooth! She is finally well on her way to a mouth full of teeth - it just took her awhile!

So it's Saturday and our fun plans today are to take Kaitlyn to the South St. Louis County fair in Proctor. We will be sure to post pics!
